Cape Cod Squidding, 8/2/2026

WWally· Saltwater Rods0 replies01Aug 3, 2026

Behind the harbormaster's office in Provincetown is a venerable squid gold mine. It's been a couple years since I was last on the Cape, but otherwise, squidding is a constant - every time I'm on the Cape, you can bet that I'll be trying to get those tubes.

This year was no different. As I usually do, I dropped by the Goose Hummock Shops first to chat with the folks there, who reported record breaking strength in squid numbers for this late in the season.

I arrived at the PTown parking lot around 3pm and took the short walk over to the harbormaster's office. Within minutes of dropping our lines in, we were in business. It wasn't drop and reel, but we filled our bait bucket with squid in an hour's time. Honestly, I haven't experienced squidding this good in years. It must have been 8+ years since the last time I had a haul this good? Safe to say we ate good for dinner.
