What does RodSmith Buyer Protection cover?

When you purchase a rod through RodSmith using our payment system and communicate through in-platform messaging, you are covered for: rods not as described, workmanship defects (guide wrap failures, epoxy defects, ferrule problems), and non-delivery.

What are the protection windows?

All windows start from delivery confirmation: 5 days for general disputes (not as described, non-delivery), 14 days for workmanship defects, and 14 days from expected delivery for non-delivery claims.

Can I return a rod because I changed my mind?

Accepted Answer

Buyer's remorse is not covered. Custom fishing rods are built to your specifications and cannot be resold as-is. Some builders may accept returns at their discretion, with the buyer responsible for return shipping costs.

How do I file a dispute?

Email support@rodsmith.app with your order ID, a description of the issue, and clear photos showing the problem. RodSmith will review your claim and contact the builder to begin resolution.

When do builders get paid?

Accepted Answer

Payout timing depends on tier. New builders: 50% on ship, 50% on delivery. Verified builders (5+ orders, 30+ days): 100% on ship. Trusted builders (15+ orders, 90+ days): 100% when buyer pays. Payouts are held during active disputes.

What workmanship defects are covered?

Covered defects include guide wraps coming loose, epoxy finish cracking or delaminating, ferrule alignment issues, cork or grip material separating, reel seat malfunction, and any structural failure under normal use within the 14-day window.

Question 7

What if the builder asks me to pay outside the platform?

Accepted Answer

Don't do it. Payments via Venmo, PayPal, cash, or any off-platform method void all Buyer Protection coverage. Report builders who pressure you to pay off-platform to support@rodsmith.app.

How long does dispute resolution take?

Accepted Answer

The builder has 3 business days to respond. If they propose a resolution, both parties get time to agree. If the builder doesn't respond, RodSmith escalates and can issue a refund directly. Most disputes resolve within 7-10 business days.
